Looks like there is plenty of rain to keep our ponds full! Dubuque had a record setting 14 inches of rain! Glennies Pond surface temp 80 degrees, the water is up 1 foot, and the visibility is down to ten feet because of the recent rains. Just got back from 2 weeks one in Curacao and one in Bonaire. The shore dives had tricky entries but excellent diving if you’re into small wildlife. Water temps made us nostalgic for Iowa quarries…it got as low as 79 degrees! But, no complaints.

We are diving with friends in the warm (84) waters of Cozumel. We have met a prof. from UNI on the pier at 8am and have shared a few dives together. Just met friends from Day Motors Sports and hope to share a few dives with them. Also have been diving with new friends from A-1 Scuba out of Denver Co. Cozumel in Aug. is great, if you have a chance Jump in.

Hello, Scuba Fans! What a day we had at Turkey Ridge. Chris, Jeff, Mike, Harold and myself successfully implemented a floating training platform. The platform is unlike any Scuba Too has seen. The deck is suspended in 17′ of water from four inner-tubes. Four cement blocks anchor the platform and prevent spinning/moving. The implementation was not simple; we started by floating the platform via lift bags (which is more tricky than first thought) into the spot we wanted. Next, Chris dropped one of the cement blocks to anchor the platform. Now that the platform was in the optimal place, we started to empty the lift bags and down it went. The cables tensed, and the inner-tubes flexed, but there the platform hung at 17′, about 2 feel below the thermocline. Finally we placed the other three cement blocks to keep the platform in place.
All-in-all it was a very successful day, and I must say, this is a great platform! There was only one animal injured in the project, Mike pinched his finger between the platform frame and deck (YOWSER!!).
This was also my first dive in the quarry. Initially the visibility was <five feet. As the sun came out and fresh run-off settled, we had 10′ easy, which was comforting. The water was above par with a surface temp of 78, 68 at 15′, and cold below 21′ I love the quarry itself. There are sheer face cliffs, with prairie grass on top, WAY COOL!
Scuba Too’s next adventure will be next weekend for an open water class, feel free to call the shop and arrange a tank and gear!
